2008 Gewurztraminer
VINEYARDS: The grapes for our Gewurztraminer are grown at our estate located in Aquebogue. This vineyard contains sandy-loan soil, which when combined with this ideal climate, produces grapes of intense perfumed varietal character.
VINTAGE: The cold spring caused a late bud break and a long period of flowering and set. This resulted in a very low crop, which ripened slowly over a cool summer. Warm afternoons followed by cold nights allowed the Gewurztraminer to ripen while retaining its varietal character and intensity.
WINEMAKING: After hand harvesting in the cool of the early morning, the fruit was crushed and pressed very gently. No skin contact. The juice was fermented cold (52F) in stainless steel using aromatic yeast strain to maxamize the varietal character of the Gewurztraminer. Because we wanted to focus on fruit, the wine is not barrel aged. This wine was kept cold in a full tank to preserve the delicate flavors before bottling in May.
WINEMAKERS NOTE: Our Gewurztraminer captures the unique pefumed character of this grape variety with a melange of fruits, lychee, floral and spice notes. The wine begins with fresh lively aromas that lead to elegant, crisp, and lightly sweet finish. Sip a chilled glass of this wine as and apeitif, or with summer picnics.
